Call for Papers: Special Issue: Transhumanism and Islam

2024-05-10

The Journal of Ethics and Emerging Technologies is pleased to announce a call for papers for a special issue exploring the intersections of transhumanism, biotechnologies, and Islamic perspectives. This special issue seeks to provide a comprehensive platform for scholarly inquiry into the philosophical, theological, social, and ethical dimensions of these complex and timely issues.

We invite submissions from scholars across various disciplines, including Islamic philosophy, theology, Islamic law, bioethics, and beyond. Submissions should offer rigorous analysis and critical reflection, contributing to the ongoing discourse on the ethical, legal, and spiritual implications of transhumanism and biotechnologies within an Islamic framework. We encourage both theoretical/empirical studies and interdisciplinary approaches that draw from multiple fields of inquiry.

We invite submissions that tackle these issues from a decidedly Muslim perspective, including but not limited to:

  • Philosophical reflections on the nature of humanity and enhancement within Islamic thought.
  • Theological perspectives on the ethical implications of transhumanism and biotechnologies in Kalam.
  • Islamic legal perspectives on bioethical dilemmas and emerging biotechnologies.
  • Explorations of spirituality and the human condition in relation to transhumanist aspirations.
  • Ethical considerations surrounding genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and human enhancement technologies.

All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure scholarly excellence. Manuscripts should adhere to the journal's guidelines for manuscript preparation and should be submitted by December 1st 2024.

We welcome all scholarly contributions while explicitly encouraging submissions that explore philosophical and spiritual dimensions. This inclusive approach aims to foster a vibrant dialogue and to provide insights from diverse perspectives on this important and timely topic.

We look forward to receiving your submissions and to the enriching discussions that will follow in this special issue of the Journal of Ethics and Emerging Technologies.
